Progress and Goals

So this is where we are so far:

  • 13 days using Litter Kwitter;  using first orange ring from multi-cat set
  • D&C both seem to recognize and understand what to do with LK
  • Using treats inconsistently to reward them;  treats are hard to give with 2 cats
  • Especially when one cat (my guess is still Carter) using the bathtub for #2 each night
  • Cats do not seem annoyed or agigtated
  • Non-potty behavior (playing, cudding, eating, etc) seems unchanged

Goals for the week:

  • Get Carter to stop using the bathtub altogether
  • Move to next ring on Friday
  • Continue to clean box 3x day (early am, after work, before bed)
  • Get more flushable litter (one box isn’t going to get us through process)
  • Try to use treats more consistently
  • Continue to peruse LK user forums and see what others have done

My thoughts:  I’m proud of my little guys.  After all, we are talking about POTTY TRAINING CATS here!  Do you know any humans who were potty trained in 13 days?  Yeah, I didn’t think so…  I’m going to try to play a stronger role in reinforcing good behavior, keeping it clean, and spending QT with the kitties…  and the pup.  Obviously Albie isn’t directly involved in potty training, but we don’t want him to feel left out.  I love all my babies, including my new patio pets, Princess Bird and her babies.  All animals are welcome and loved in my life!

In conclusion, I’ll share a picture from Halloween 2008…  if I could put D&C in costume and convince them not to scratch my eyeballs out and to pose for the camera, surely I can teach them to use the toilet.  Surely…  Anyway, I call this photo Cartersaurus and Chickenhead Duke.

A tip with multiple cats, give them all treats when either of them use the toilet. Some cats actually get angry at the one that has accidents because then the cat that didn’t have the accident miss his/her treat 🙂 … It’s also helpful if one of the cats is bugging the other one on the toilet.

I think problem is that Carter won’t use the toilet (#2) if Duke has already used it. During day, I can keep an eye on it and keep it clean, but during the night is another story. If Duke gets there first, Carter uses the bathtub. If Carter gets there first, Duke still uses it.

I am going to try to use the treats more often and more consistently. They’ve always been overweight and not allowed to have treats, so it is a really big deal for them to get treats, and I think they know it.

I thought we had that problem too, but after I worked on my girls confidence to get her off the floor and on the toilet again I don’t think that was the problem after all…It may be that after I bought a baby call to keep a closer eye on them even at night I’m able to give her treats almost everytime to reinforce her good behaviour and be there to keep her from doing anything bad…Or it may be that since I’m there more often right after anyone has used the toilet I flush more often aswell…I have to say that the baby call with videomonitor was the best thing I have bought to help with the training 🙂

To bad that they are overweight…Maybe you can reinforce with playtime or some kind of treat that is healthy? What do they usually eat?
